These barriers are caused by internal and external factors. Where internal factors are problems that come from within the teachers themselves such as (1) teachers have difficulty in building character, (2) lack of knowledge about ICT, (3) teaching styles such as methods and media that teachers use (4) difficulties in building good classrooms. effective, which is caused by learning burnout and lack of interaction, and (5) lack of time. Then the obstacles contained in the external factors are the obstacles experienced by students which can become barriers for teachers in teaching online, including: (1) economic problems and (2) lack of support. It can be concluded that online learning still has various barriers in its implementation so that further research is needed to find a solution, then the learning can be carried out optimally. keywords: teachers' barriers; Covid-19; online learning; English

Abstract

This study aims to find out the effectiveness of debate as a method used in improving students' speaking skills ability in EFL. This was a quantitative study with a pre-experimental research design that used pre-test and post-test as data collection instruments. This research was conducted at Senior High School 1 Babelan Bekasi to 30 students in 11th grade who were the participants of the school English Club. These students were selected by the purposive sampling technique. The data was analyzed statistically by using t-test. The results of this study revealed that: the students’ mean score on the pre-test was 61.03 while their post-test one was 75.90. Additionally, statistical calculation of t-test resulted t-cal (6.30) > t-table (2.045) with significance level of 0.05. Thus, these findings confirmed that the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. Therefore, this research work concluded that debate used as a method of improving students’ speaking ability is effective. Keywords: Debate method, Speaking ability, EFL students

Abstract

In this study, the researcher wanted to prove whether the students who often take selfies get lower achievement than the students who do not often take a selfie at SMKS Perwari Tulungagung in the 2020/2021 academic year. The researcher used an ex-post-facto experimental design that was categorized into quantitative research. This study was conducted at SMKS Perwari Tulungagung. The population of this study was all students of eleventh grade at SMKS Perwari Tulungagung in the 2020/2021 academic year which consist of 320 students and the sample was taken randomly 15% about 48 students. The finding of this study can be seen that the average score of the experimental group was 84 and the control group was 85. It means that the experimental group got a lower score than the control group. Then, after the researcher analyzed the data by using the t-test formula, the researcher got the result t count was 2.557 by a significant level of 0.05 and df= n-2 = 48-2=46, and the t table is 2.013. Finally, it proved that the students who often took selfies got lower achievements than the students who did not often take a selfie on the students' achievement at SMKS Perwari Tulungagung in the 2020/2021 academic year.
